Terra was born as a tribute to Bernardo Falconi’s environment, the Ecuadorian Andes, where he finds not only a deep symbolic connection rich in meanings, but also unique energetic qualities. The power of the volcanoes and the mysticism of mountains and the moor are transformed into energetic paintings, which provide to the viewer an intimate experience with my introspective and meditative process.
In Terra the artist tries to generate a different individual character for each mountain, not by endowing them with personality but by investing them with qualities outside the meanings that have traditionally been assigned to them as mountains. The basic notions of weight, gravity, volume, and their relationship with space are subverted in this pictorial series, in such a way that the representation of a volcano (Tungurahua) loses its volume and becomes a pure incendiary flame, free of materiality and of weight; the mountain surrounded by a tricolor sunset (Corazón) is endowed with gustatory qualities, a sweet taste that intrinsically opposes the precepts that give us the meanings established by our culture.
Thus, through appearance, I try to provide the viewer with a new way of feeling the Andes through the pictorial experience.
